BLACK FOOTPRINTS NYC, INC. was founded by a group of passionate historians and preservationists who wanted to make a difference in their community. Since then, we have grown and expanded our services, but our commitment to preserving history remains the same.
WHO TELLS THE STORY PROJECTS
ACT LIKE YOU KNOW
We bring history to life through reenactments that blend historical events with contemporary culture, music, and storytelling. We're looking for actors, performers, videographers, photographers, production assistants, and creative collaborators of all experience levels.
ANNUAL THROWBACK EVENTS
We plan and produce immersive, period-inspired fundraising events and community celebrations that bring history to life through music, fashion, food, and culture from different eras. Support is needed for event planning, décor, outreach, hospitality, and logistics. I.e. 1920s and 80s Themes
WHO TELLS THE STORY
A creation of educational videos and historical storytelling through research, filming, editing, photography, set design, interviewing, presenting, and behind-the-scenes production. The Committee is made up of folks who are interested in production in any capacity in any level.
COMMUNITY MEMORY PROJECTS
STREET NAMING & HISTORIC DESIGNATION INITIATIVES
We recognize significant people, places, and events through street naming, honorary designations, and historical plaques that preserve New York's Black history and legacy. Our committee members drive our annual initiatives.

Help document everyday life in Lower East Side public housing from the 1950s to today. We're collecting photographs, household items, documents, neighborhood memorabilia, and personal stories that capture the people, traditions, resilience, and culture that made these communities home.

Help preserve the history of Black churches on Manhattan's Lower East Side. We're collecting photographs, church programs, bulletins, memorabilia, and personal stories that celebrate the congregations, leaders, and community life that have sustained generations of Lower East Side residents.
